I've installed Mandrake 9.0. It's very nice. There is only one problem, how can i use my USB modem (with smartlink chipset)? I've downloaded the drivers from the site but it's very difficult to install, because it gives a lot of errors... Anyone know something? Thanks.
Well, it's quite complicated to explain since i've to switch from linux to win for every internet connection, and i'm not a good linux user.
I've found that KDE3 has seen my modem (Dynamode USB v92 modem, uses drivers from smartlink) and says that it's a thompson soft56k modem. All right! i say, but kppp don't recognize this modem, i've tried /dev/modem and all the other possibility, inclused all /dev/usb...ecc and /dev/com*.. .
About the driver that i've donwloaded, i've followed the readme, inclused in it, on every point. There are two way to install, 1- using make 2-building an rpm. The 1 option gives me a lot of errors, maybe the makefile is not correct, i don't know. The 2 option don't work because when i build the rpm he can't find "rpmb" or "rpmd", i dunno what is it. I'm thinking to sell this modem and to buy a normal serial one. USB modems are a very stupid solution i think. Thanks.
P.S. Does anybody use this modem on linux? It's possible?

I don't know what the correct device to use for a USB modem, but you should be able to install the module for it with little problems. What is the module name you downloaded. What is the exact make and model of the modem? There should be more to it than Dynamode USB v.92. I've searched for what you've given me, and I could use some more information. Hopefully we can get everything you need. I'd like to get a copy of that readme as well to see what it's telling you to do.
