slackware 10.0 soundcard


Hello
I've just installed slackware 10.0 on my pc.
But my problem is, it somehow can't find my soundcard.
It printed out in my console that it couldn't find the soundcard, that happend when i tried to check if evrything whas alright.
Soundcard: onboard soundblaster 5.1

Have you tried to run alsaconf ? Its a supported soundcard so its probably just a teething issue.

It still doesn't work.
I got the complete error from kmix when i start it:

kmix: Error: Alsa mixer cannot be found.
Please check that the soundcard is installed and the soundcard driver is loaded.

Ok, check the instructions here at alsa, its the sound blaster live you have, right?

Its kinda stupid question.
But where can i find the alsa source code?

I also have the problem with starting X Windows system....says sound card cannot be found etc etc...i can play sound fine in console but with a lot of hissing...mostly due to my lack of knowledge I'm guessing
