significance of $$ in a logcheck script?

I am trying to figure out what the significance of $$ is in a logcheck script? I am not sure what the purpose of using this $$ is...what does it do...what does it represent? Please help....

I'm assuming that's a bash script. If so, $$ is the process ID of the current shell.

If you're going to be doing some shell scripting, I'd recommend a look at the Advanced Bash-Scripting Guide, there's some useful stuff there. If you're going to be doing a lot of bash shell scripting there's also "Learning the Bash Shell". It's one of the O'Reilly publisher's books and is up to the 3rd edition now (at least, that's what my copy is) - very handy.
