Question several total newbie questions...

Hey guys,

I am running Redhat 8.0 with Gnome 2.0.
p3 666
256 pc133
geforce 3
cable modem w/ linksys 4-port router set to DHCP

I am wondering a couple things relating to hostnames and DNS.

I want to know if I can have my linux machine have a different name other than localhost.localhost (or whatever it comes up with as a default). I eventually want it to have a name set up for my local network. I would like to be able to type linuxbox.domain.net (or something like that) and have my windows XP machine connect to the linux box over the network and access a webpage i'm setting up on the appache server on the linux box.

Do i need to set up DNS on the linux box (with static IPs on the router) or what? I have no clue where to proceed. I've read the documents that come with redhat and the part about DNS makes no sense to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
