Question Sendmail not working

Hi all,

I've installed a clean version of CentOS 6 on my VPS. After that i installed DirectAdmin with all of its features. Now when i create a new user account an email has to be send to me ( as creator ) and to the user. This email doesn't get send.

I think there is somerhing wrong with my (send)mail settings.

Regards,

Ruben Maas

Are you sure this is a sendmail problem?

Have a look at the log files, maybe there's an indicator there.

Also, the default MTA for v6 of RHEL/Centos is postfix; did you change that to sendmail?

Thanks for your quick response,

@druuna: i suppose when the DirectAdmin documentation says that sendmail is included, sendmail is installed and used.
Where can i find these logs and what do i look for?

@chrism01: if postfix is default MTA, why isn't the server sending any emails when a new user is added to DirectAdmins interface?

Again thanks for your replies!

1st check which MTA is running; you can have only one...
Code:
root@blah~]  netstat -tanp|grep 25
tcp        0      0 127.0.0.1:25                0.0.0.0:*                   LISTEN      1950/master
tcp        0      0 ::1:25                      :::*                        LISTEN      1950/master
shows 'master' which is the key part of postfix.
sendmail should show up as 'sendmail'

For logs, try /var/log/maillog

Hi Chris,

Thanks again for your reply!

The return i get:

Code:
tcp        0      0 0.0.0.0:25                  0.0.0.0:*                   LISTEN      1762/exim
tcp        0      0 :::25                       :::*                        LISTEN      1762/exim
Can i conclude that Exim is the MTA here?

Regards,
Ruben

Exim is your MTA so you next need to think about how DirectAdmin interfaces to it.

Have a look at http://bradthemad.org/tech/notes/exim_cheatsheet.php
It may not directly help your situation, but if you're going to have to use exim on a regular basis, you'll want to have it.
