hi
google

ut2004-lnxpatch3270-1

i think that is the fix

the Xlib: extension "XiG-SUNDRY-NONSTANDARD" missing on display ":0.0".
is not a problem so don't worry about that

ok i got the patch.
i used terminal to uncompress the file but then used the desktop (kde) to drag and drop the files. i think that screwed it up because now it does nothing. im a newbie so maybe you could tell me the proper way to overwrite files using the correct commands. i think when i overwrote the files it did not copy hidden files correctly.

untar the patchfile again
cd into the patch directory
su (become root)
(check you install path here)
cp -R * /usr/local/games/ut2004/

see if that works better
unless you really trashed something ??
not so trouble to start over -- don't give up yet
delete the trashed directory
think all the time icculus spent porting that game to Linux
reinstall
send a blank email to
ut2004-subscribe@icculus.org
to get on the email help list and ask the question there

America's Army is a fairly good free game for Linux.

http://www.americasarmy.com/

It is also free and easy to install.

I currently run SUSE 9.1 with an alright Nvidia Card (it is good enough for me, it allows me to play 3D games better than ATI on Linux support allows for right now). Maybe you might be able to pick up a cheap supported 3D Nvidia card somewhere?

yeah maybe. is it the crappy ati drivers? i cant believe they give such poor support. if i put in a invidia, do you think a fx 9700 would compare to ati 9600 pro??? this is the last ati card i buy

For Windows, the ATI would win hands down I'm willing to bet, but for Linux, NVidia is the way to go no matter what anyone tells you (at least for right now, maybe ATI will actually begin to support Linux at some point). Plus, it is easier to get NVidia's drivers to install, espescially in SUSE.
