Screen Res

I just installed Mandrake 8.2. I can't stand the default screen res. I go to try to change it to 1024x768... It goes to test it and its still the same. I went through all the settings, I noticed theres nothing for a GeForce 2 64MB MX in select video card, maybe thats the problem?

Heres the system specs.

P4 1.7GHz
512MB RAM
10GB *nix partition
GeForce 2 64MB MX400
Monitor - Samsung SyncMaster 753DF (17")

I did look up a few... They mostly point to xf86config.

I went through, I researched my monitor + video cards specs (geforce 2 mx400, samsung syncmaster 753 df) and entered them in... Still *nothing*. Am I completely hopeless?

Have you installed the nvidia drivers from their website yet? I'd take a look at doing that first.

this is true although since it's better to install them anyhow, i went straight for the drivers...

As far as still not working, can the monitor handle what you are trying to do?

the tool in mandrake is XFdrake
u can use XFdrake --noauto --expert when you
know wat you want/ are doing
My Identifier for Geforce 2 GTS reads
NVIDIA GeForce2 DDR (generic) so choose that
use 24 colour depth
Got it working ? then start hacking in XFC86Config-4 for
the OpenGl thing
but i suggest to read this
www.mandrakeuser.org/docs/hardware/hgforce.html
its got all in it
If you use an AMD append in lilo.conf mem=nopentium
rerun lilo.
enjoy

hmm its seems easy to get a 1000 posts only answering
the Nvidia thingy but i guess searching this forum
properly won't produce Gurus nomore
