redhat 9 and kernel 2.6x update

Hey all,

Anyone had any luck updating redhat 9. I have been trying every weekend for the past 3 weeks to get it going and no dice. I keep getting errors at make install:

No mptbase found for kernel 2.6.X <- 9 and 8.1
No buslogic found blah blah blah

I have tried following a few different online tutorials, but of course with no luck. I have gotten rid of the buslogic error but no matter what I do I get the darn mptbase error. Any ideas about what configuration setting are linked with fusion mpt?

Thanks in advance!

ok this is just a guess cause i don't use these things on my system
so take it as an idea not a fact !
i think you might have an old mkinitrd script that is looking for modules with the old .o rather than the new .ko
module names........
therefore it's saying it's not finding the modules
see if you can update (fix) the script yourself or get a newer one
on the other hand
remember -- this may be just my opinion
if you are not loading scsi drivers/array drivers you really don't need initrd image to boot
you can most likely configure them into the kernel as well not modules i've just never tried ??????
just compile basic support for your hard drive and file system into the kernel rather than modules
and you are good to go.
also no need to use make install you can just "make bzImage" and move stuff into place (kernel image and System.map) by hand.
and do your boot loader by hand

I had to edit my modules.conf file and modprobe.conf file removing any mention of scsi mptxxx before running make install

Thanks for the reply/help/two bits!
