Red Hat 9 boot problem

I just installed Red Hat 9 on my computer for the first time. I know very little about linux systems but know much about widows (and dont like it). The install all went nice and smoothly, I reformatted both of my HD's during the install and wanted to run a straight Red Hat 9 system. When I tried to boot my system up it stops at the following line:

apm: BIOS version 1.2 Flags 0x03 (Driver Version 1.16)

I searched the forums for this string and found little help. There were a few others who experienced this problem but it didn't look as thought they had solved their problem. I am currently using my school's computers to access this forum so any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
