Hi,
I have simple question:
-how do I qut X so that I get to the shell.

The reason why I'm asking this is because I need to install a new videa driver.

Thanks for reading!

No need to quit x. Just open up a console window. If using KDE just click on the monitor icon on the taskbar.

if your installing your nvidia drivers then I think it's better to getout of X at some point of the installation ... and to do that:

Brute force method: press the following keys together at the same time "Ctrl Alt Backspace" to exit X

Simple way: depending on your window / desktop manager youre using with your X window system look for a way to exit or logout the window / desktop manager.

But if you login from your X after you boot up your linux distro ... well the above will not work for you ... and there is a bit more work.
