probles with pdflib for gnuplot

I was trying to install gnuplot.
After making the ./configure i saw that it was missing the pdflib and some gdlib.
I downloaded both and (probably corretly) installed the , because after running ./configure again they were found.
But after installing gnuplot and try to open it i get the message :

gnuplot: error while loading shared libraries: libpdf.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I searched and the file libpdf.so.5 is present in the directory

/usr/local/lib/libpdf.so.5

Any ideas why it doesnt find the file???

There's two possibilities that immediately spring to mind:
a) the gnuplot you installed wants a different version
b) /usr/local/lib isn't listed in /etc/ld.so.conf

What distro are you using?

Cheers,

hm..
i think i downloaded the most resent version of pdflib. So idont know if thats the problem
Then my ld.so.conf file has only this context:

include ld.so.conf.d/*.conf

So maybe i have to add , as you said, usr/local/lib but how do i do that.
I am using Fedora 7.
