problems with gui - on Mandriva
Hi all -- I have used Mandriva for some while, and recently changed out the monitor on my Linux computer -- after which the KDE wouldn't come up. The loader gets to the HAL daemon, then just stops. I've gone into failsafe, and changed the monitor parameters -- but ordinary bootup just won't. Is there any way to get the KDE desktop to come up from the failsafe? In other words, what's the command from the prompt to start it?
I really appreciate your help -- I'm old and battleworn, and my mind isn't quite what it used to be -- but I like this stuff and try. :-)

I do not use linux commands a lot but I guess startx or kde
if this was my problem I would just put the mandriva installation cd in the drive, proform an update without any modifications and after a couple of minutes I would have everything back to normal (I did this when I bought the printer 2 years ago )

problems with gui - on Mandriva
I have already attempted startup with Mandriva disk -- to try and repair whatever -- no results -- hence my intrusion into this group. I thought mebbe someone else had had this problem.

Login as root. (Probably a console.) and enter password.
xorgconfig should get you to a menu
drakxconf is the gui for it.
