i have installed Mandriva Linux in my system. After installation, i can able to login as root user in virtual console . But i could not able to root login in GUI with same password. why ?

Check in the file /etc/kde/kdm/kdmrc. In the file there is one or two lines that disable root from logging in to the gui.
The line to look for is AllowRootLogin=
Make it true after the = sign. If there is a # infront of the line remove that as well. Note there may be more than one line like that. Both need to be changed.
Mandriva disables root login via the GUI by default. It is also empty (i.e. no application shortcuts ) by default. Its not recommended to login as root via the GUI and really isn't necessary. But if you most you can via the above procedures.
