Question Problems with GUI!

Hi guys!

I have a problem. My linux box starts up at a GUI login, which is the way I want it, but when I hit Ctrl + Alt + F1 to go to a text prompt, it goes right back to the GUI login 10 secs later. It makes no difference what I am doing at the text prompt. Any ideas of what might be happening?

I'm a real new newbie at this, so please go easy on me. If this has been answered before, could you please point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance

BTW I am running Redhat 8.0
