Do you have a license for RHEL? If so, this entitles you to dedicated support and I suggest you open up a support request with them.

If you don't have a license then consider using either Fedora or CentOS.

What graphics card are you using?

RHEL 5.5 is the current release. It will have better support for modern hardware than RHEL 4. (You could also try CentOS 5.5 if you don't want to pay for Red Hat support.)

As mentioned by the previous poster, you'll want to know which graphics card you have to troubleshoot the problem.

ASUS P5KPL-AM/PS Motherboard :
Integrated graphics engine Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3100.

Suggest : Plug in any old Nvidia PCIe graphics card.
( E.g. Geforce 6200 PCIe ).
That will work much better than the Intel graphics.
Also with CentOS 5.5 / EL 5.5 .

P.S.: The issue can also be the Samsung monitor.
..

Select a different distribution of Linux.

If you chose Redhat EL because of some need for specific features that are better in RHEL than in most distributions, then get Centos instead.

More likely, you had no good reason for selecting RHEL. So get a more beginner friendly desktop distribution.

I think you can still get Mepis 8.0. Mepis is one of the most beginner friendly Linux distributions, but Mepis 8.5 is far less beginner friendly than previous versions (as well as harder to get working on many display systems). Ubuntu is also relatively beginner friendly. I personally have had very bad results with Mint, but it is also reputed to be beginner friendly.

If you still have problems initially getting into GUI mode, the file /var/log/Xorg.0.log contains info about what happened inside the attempt to get into GUI mode. Looking at that after a failure to get into GUI mode can be very informative, but I understand that might be tricky to get to in whatever limited mode your system is in after failing to get into GUI. Ask for help with that if necessary after choosing a more appropriate distribution.

If you insist on sticking with RHEL, pay for support from RedHat and get the help you need from them.
