Problems running executables in RH 7.2

This is the third day I have Linux and I am having difficulty running executables, and even more trouble with shell scripts...ex. I downloaded this game called SearchAndRescue...managed to install it, but now if I click on the executable file, or try running it from the shell window nothing happens or it tells me it is not a recognized application file or something like that.

I am having this problem with almost all files, which suggests to me that I don't know what the heck I am doing, but thats why I'm here isn't it? I installed the game the way they told me with the "make" command and then all that stuff, so it is installed, just nothing happens when I try running it.

I have a P4 running Red Hat 7.2 with GEFORCE 256 32MB graphics card 128MB RAM and no clue what I'm doing...I'm getting there though(I know a number of basic shell commands now, its just like learning DOS all over again...ahhhh the good old days of DOS)

By the sounds of it, it's either not installing the executable file into the correct directory; the directory which holds the executable file is not in your PATH (these two are almost the same thing); or the executable attribute has not been for the file.

If you could post the complete error message, and what you did to get it, that would be very helpful.
