problem with pause feature in kscd

I'm having a strange problem with kscd. Everything works fine, I can play my music CD's and pause them, but only for up to 59 seconds. If I pause the CD for more than 59 secs, I can't restart playing! Kscd stays in pause mode. I have to stop and start playing the CD from the beginning (or select the track I want from the pull-down menu). If I type dmesg after running into this problem, I get:

sr0: CDROM (ioctl) reports ILLEGAL REQUEST

but only if I've stayed in pause for too long, otherwise there are no error messages and everything is fine. Also, and this may be a red herring, but if I haven't hit the play button again after 59 seconds, I can hear the CD drive spinning down.

In searching the forums I haven't found anyone else who's had a problem with the pause feature, so I'm a bit puzzled as to why I'm having this problem. Does anyone out there know how I can fix this, or how I can go about diagnosing it better?

Many thanks in advance
