Unhappy Presario CQ61-420US fan starts, lights on but no beeping & no screen

I have an hp cq61-420us that I purchased about 2 years ago.

When I turn on my laptop, the lights come on and the fan starts but the wireles indicator light remains amber (doesn't turn blue) and the screen does not come on. There is also no beeping.

For the last few weeks, this would happen, but I would turn it off and on over about 30 minutes and it would eventually kick in and the screen would turn on. Now the screen will not come on at all and I can't do anything with it.

I have done a hard reset
I have done a hard reset and removed the RAM
I have done a hard reset and removed the BIT battery

Nothing has worked.

I took it apart to replace the fan about a year ago, so I don't think that is the issue.

Any help at all, please! Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to LQ!

You say no 'beeps' or other visual activity so try entering the BIOS and see if anything has been changed. If you can enter BIOS then the basic system is still functional. If not then you have issues that could be power or even system board problems.

Power system off, remove power & battery then open memory access to re-seat the memory. Please use caution when removing memory and re-inserting each. When you replaced fan, what was the condition of the heat pipe for the processor?

If you can enter BIOS then you could try a LIveCD/DVD and pressing F12 for a boot menu or enter BIOS to select the boot drive.

SystemRescueCD or UBCD are good to have on hand whenever you need to test a piece of equipment. Both LiveCD have good diagnostic sets to help you.
