I have SuSE 9.1 running with Thunderbird 1.0.2
At times my email downloads fine - if I send something to myself for example but at times email sent by others is pulled of the server (disappears from webmail) but thunderbird tells me there is no new mail.
At one stage I killed fetchmail (fetchmail -q as su) but I can't find how to stop it starting on reboot. This helped for a little while
Looking in my /var/log/mail I get the following:
