OpenSSL in RHEL (0.9.7.a) and the one I installed (0.9.7.g)

As some of you guys know, I have been dabbling around with SSL, and only possible - thanks to the many help I have got from you guys... thanks for the patience!

Meanwhile, I realise I shouldn't have install ver 0.9.7.g (from openssl.org) into RHEL 4 as I thought it wasn't install. Only just did I realise it is! and it is version 0.9.7.a

1) I have been generating keys from openssl.. but which one is it running? how do i tell? I just use #openssl.....

anyway to check the path?

2) How do I remove the one I just installed? My manager told me to stick to standard rhel packages as much as possible... to prevent conflicts... please advise

3) while #rpm -qa | grep xxx searches the packages that was installed, it doesn't list down those that were installed manually like the openssl 0.9.7.g i installed... is there any other known ways to search what is installed in the server?

one reason is because the server i installed 0.9.7g on is standalone, while now i am trying on 2 other servers which are being load balanced behind a CISCO content switch... i am having problem establising https connection and though signs are pointing to the switch configuration (pulling my hair out now), there's one variable between the servers in that I used the rhel default ones for those behind the load balancer and for the one that is standalone, i used 0.9.7.g (initally didn't know thats why.. )

but i just use it to generate private key and csr.. shouldn't be too much of an issue yah?

please advice
