Can Linux can be installed on the PC having Serial ATA Harddisk


I recently bought a computer having a serial ATA hard disk, I have heard that linux dosent support serial ATA hard disk . Is it True?

It is not true. Linux does have support for SATA controllers. SATA controllers from Intel, VIA, nVidia, Silicon Image, and Promise has problems with DMA. nVidia is getting better than others. Stay away from Maxtor and Seagate drives. I suggest Highpoint RocketRAID 1540 or any 3ware SATA controllers.

I am running Fedora Core 4 and KANOTIX with two Serial ATA discs, with two ports on the motherboard and an expansion card with another two SATA ports. No problem what so ever!
