openoffice


can anyone please tellme howto install openoffice from a linuxformat dvd
it is a tar.gz file
I just buy this magazine that came with a dvd full of rpm and tar, tgz, and bz2 free software.

I want to know how can I install some of those files.

Have you searched for this one? I think it's here in the questions pages. If the search functionality is missing from your browser, try:

gunzip OpenOfficeXXX.tar.gz
tar -xvf OpenOfficeXXX.tar

then follow the instructions in the README or the INSTALL files which are unpacked with the software.

A good linux book may be a worthwhile investment.

Unzip it (as Bert suggested), then enter the directory it created when unpacking and run
./setup /net
It's a network method of installation (many users can acces the program). When installing choose directory like /usr/local/OpenOffice.org. Then you'll need to run setup in OpenOffice dir as a normal user to install personal files in user's home directory.
