OpenOffice help

i have been using OO since i started up with linux a little over a year ago and really like it. the sad thing is i like it better in windows then i do in linux, well at least more so then i do in debian-sarge linux the distro i am using and very happy with.

my problem is simple, but i have no clue how to fix it. its the spell checker.

in windows it just works and has a large library/dictionary, but in linux it just does not work.

yes i have it configured for auto spell checking, but it never finds any misspelled words, and i can not spell to save my life i know i have a bunch of spelling errors with each document i produce. a perfect example is yesterday. i am building flyers for a tournament i am hosting on the 30th of April. after running the spell checker in linux it found nothing wrong. problem is i know i did not spell several of the words right as i just did not have a clue how to spell them. After i get my wife to spell check things manually i transfer the files to the house and use OO on my windows system to FIX all of the spelling errors. low and behold it found them all and was able to fix them in no time at all.

now i just finished transfering the files back to the office so i can prepair to publish them tonight. that is a HUGE waist of time and a major problem as i really do not want to do my WORK from home, i want to do work at work.

how do i get OO for linux to get a better dictionary, or at least use the one that it is suppose to have.

i installed OO via apt-get and have updated it within the past 48hrs with apt-get upgrade to my system and several of the packages that were updated belonged to OO.

thanks for the help or at least a direction to go to get OO working as good in linux as it does in windows.

What version of OO are you using?

What do you have in <install prefix>/share/dict/ooo/ ?

Can you post a copy of <install prefix>/share/dict/ooo/dictionary.lst
