Hi, When I bootup I receive an error message (window) informing me that that there is a problem with ... OAFIID: Fastuserswitchapplet ... that is how it is written.
What is the "fast user applet", and would it be safe to delete?
I recently reinstalled my Gnome-Panel after losing my program shortcut icon panel and bottom panel that contains the "Waste Bin".
Open configuration editor
Go to
/apps/nautilus/desktop
and put a check on icons you want on desktop.
Thank you for your quick response. However, I cannot find the file /apps/nautilus/desktop in my text editor. Could you be a little more specific please?
Is the configuration editor the same as text editor, or am I looking in the wrong application?
Configuration editor
In ubuntu it maybe gnome configuration editor
Mine is under Applications>>System>>Configuration Editor.
I'll check on my Ubuntu machine and let you know, which.
Mine is Configuration Editor
under Applications>>System Tools
If you don't have it you have to enable by right -clicking on menu-bar anywhere between Applications & System
select edit menus
expand Applications
select System Tools
and on right check the box that has configuration editor.
Okay, I figured it out ... Error Message, "The panel encountered a problem while loading. "OAFIID: Gnome_FastUserSwitchApplet". Do you want to delete this applet from your configuration?
This is the fix that worked on Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Merkat.
At the terminal type: sudo aptitude install gnome-applets
Reboot ... no error message
Gael.
Thanks to all those who offered their help, it was much appreciated.

Reason: Thanking those who helped solve the problem
Installing gnome-applets doesn't solve this problem on Ubuntu 11.04, because this package is already installed.
And by the way, for a long time, there is no command aptitude in Ubuntu -- only apt-get.
The problem is still not solved.
