not connected? printer 8300 series may not be connected


I am trying to setup my lexmark 8300 series printer.on ubuntu 64 bit 8.04. on a System 76 machine running linux only.

The ubuntu help page to setup localprinter, is to plug the printer into your computer and power it on. In The popup it say 8300 with find new drive with the word hilite I clike on fine drive, next page sed chuse your printer, I pick lexmark, click forword,next page say 1020 business foomatic/pcl3/recommended.

I accept, the printer configuration localhose popup, The only change i made is shared.
I try to printe test page, noting happen, try print a file. It say not connected? printer 8300 series may not be connected. But the printer is pluging and turn on. Help please.

If you're going to use your printer for yourself,on your machine then you should've choose "local printer" not "shared over the network" option.

I am sorry, What I menth to say is that the only chang I made is to remove the check mark from shared opton.
All so the printer configuration panel, were it say printer state, the word prossing on for 1/2 hours till i turn it off. Any suggaston.

Sometimes it takes some time for the printer to print the test page.Maybe your printer is in the paused state,if so change it to ready.Have you set it as default printer,if not,do it.Also,have you tried to reboot your Pc with printer turned on,to see will it work then?
