Using a printer connected to win xp

I tried http://localhost:631 to configure cups, but I get an error message saying that I can't connect.
Is there a way to manually start cups? I tried /etc/rc.d/rc.cups restart (like samba) but didn't work.
I didnt' select cups when I was installing Slackware 10.1, but I idownloaded and installed it after the slackware installation.
I would like to know how to use a printer connected to win xp, and how to configure cups other than http://localhost:631 (b/c it doens't work). Thanks in advance.

Typing: /etc/rc.d/rc.cups start should do it, what's the error you're getting?
Try: chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.cups
By the way, did you install it using a Slackware package or compiled it yourself?
