no sound through wireless headphones

HI,
I am using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
I have just purchased a pair of Asus HS-W1 wireless headphones thinking that I shouldn't have any compatibility problems if I stick to like brands.
The headphones use WI-FI 2G advanced 2 way digital transmission.

The headphones don't work with my ASUS G74s but the headphones and dongle work fine with an old XP PC that I have.
The leds on the dongle and phones indicate pairing (recognise each other as with the xp pc) but no sound through the phones - still uses speakers.

The usb port on the G74s are working as I can mount and unmount a normal usb stick/drive and access the contents therefore all hardware seems fine.

Also, the wireless head phones do not work on my asus transformer android tablet!

can anyone help?

brian

You can try editing /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and deleting the last line:
options snd-usb-audio index=-2
which may prevent the device working. You could also look at this
http://alsa.opensrc.org/.asoundrc#Default_PCM_device

I don't have wireless speakers/headphones, but I do have USB ones and they do not like Ubuntu. For the record, they work out of the box with AntiX, Arios, CentOS, Fedora, Manjaro, Mint (not LMDE), Parsix, Pinguy, Salix, and Solus. Other distros require a script, Ubuntu just fails.
