No sound, RealTek ALC650, Redhat 8.0


I'm a noob :-< with little linux knowlege

I have a Msi motherboard with a RealTek ALC650 intergrated sound card. But when i start up my system i get a sound server error. I currently have Rehat 8.0 and i think i need a new driver.

Can anyone help!

p.s. as i am a noob i dont know how to install drivers so some pointers would be apreciated.

what chipset are you using?
please post the output of "lspci" as root. you becomes root by type "su -" in the command line.

sorry for the delay, had a prob with the ram

with Lspci it shows

Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8233 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 50)

woohoo,

i found a VIA driver that worked with the card, and i now have sound

pci soundcard help

hi ...
my name is wail....i am still new to linux..i have redhat9 installed....and i do have aproblem with the sound card....it is a pci..
using lpci

00:09.0 Multimedia audio controller: Avance Logic Inc. ALS4000 Audio Chipset
...
it is detected but it says it is not supported.....
help please...:

looks like you have to use one of oss-sound drivers.
