No Sound?


I just recently installed linux last night and Im downloading music, but theres no sound?
I tried playing with the volume control...nothing

I tried messing with the plugs....nothing


What should I do?


EDIT: I did a soundcard detection and it plays fine there... but I cant play any music from any cd or whatever I download.. what the hell?

it would help to know which distro you're using, exactly what steps you've taken, and which application you're using to play the sound.

Oh Im sorry..


Im using Fedora Core 3

I goto applications>system settings<sound card detection

the sound works fine there

in the far top right hand corner there is a volume control there, i open it up and everything seems fine...

I tried ALL the player applications thats installed with the original setup and I even downloaded XMMS

but no sound

redhat used to ship with a disabled support for mp3's, due to patent issues. this may still be the case, but maybe try searching in the fedora forum here at LQ - if that's still the case its surely come up many times.
