Maybe someone could help me, I normally run Linux Mint, however I loaded Ubuntu on another hard drive and loaded it up, however the problem I am having is that there is no output sound. The Mic works fine just no speaker. I have tried to find any setting that is set wrong and also the drivers. However it appears that it uses the same drivers as Mint. It is all on the same computer and equipment, I can take the disk out and replace it with the Mint disk and all the sound works fine. Any ideas?
first of all, open the mixer (usually pavucontrol) and see if you can fiddle with the settings - ALL settings, also advanced etc.
make sure you know how to undo everything you do.
if that doesn't help, please open a terminal.
enter
Code:
alsamixer
and see if one of the outputs is muted.
if that doesn't help either, show us the output of the following commands:
Code:
uname -rvm
aplay -l
lspci -k
PS:
in the long run you'd be better off actually installing a distro to your hard drive.

I will do this if you would please tell me where I get it from. Thanks so much

Well, where did you get the drives you're using NOW?? Linux Mint has a website, as does Ubuntu. Visit them and follow the download links and instructions.
I believe that I just discovered why the output sound does not work, I have a Brothers printer model MFC-J5330DW, once the procedure is completed installing the printer the output sound dies.
