sir,
I have installed mandriva on my laptop(HCL 5084AX457960) with C2D processor.
each & every package has been installed but after rebooting, it doe not give any desktop, instead acommand prompt screen is displayed,
kindly suggest what could be the problem & how to overcome it
I have installed mandriva with same dvd on other laptops too, there it has worked succesfully
Is the problem due to system configuration or is there some other reason?
kindly reply soon
You don't say what version of Mandriva you're using. My guess would be that you didn't configure the X server, so without the devices, it gives you a command-prompt only.
You could also have the wrong run-level specified in your boot config. If you specified run level 3, that's text-only. You can try typing in (as root), "init 5", and see what happens. You can also try 'startx', and see if it brings up x.
You may also want to check your X windows log files, and see if there are any errors.
