We have the same audio card

It should be working "out of the box" but very often sound is muted by default. Even if the master volume can be raised, other audio channels are still mute so changing the volume has no effect. Have you tried playing with the sound mixer? If you double-click the volume icon in the corner of the screen you'll enter the sound mixer. Play with the mixer until you hear the music playing (most importantly the "Front" audio channel needs to be unmuted). Also play with the preferences in the mixer to see more audio channels.

I hope it helps. Don't forget to check the speakers too

I don't know what is still wrong, I can only guess. I can see that you are playing with the PulseAudio mixer - notice that there are mixer settings also for OSS and Alsa... You should concentrate on the ALSA settings (from the audio mixer choose "Change Device" and set to ALSA). Besides that are you sure that the speakers are working and connected properly?

Sorry that I can't do more from here.

Try typing alsaconf in console. After configuring you can run any mixer n select Alsa. Do not forget to switch on master, pcm etc.
