Question No sound output from audio CD

I am running RH9 with KDE desk top environment. The sound card is configured. However, whenever I try to run an audio cd, I can't hear any sound even though the cd is running. How can I fix this ?

Which music player are you using? If it's XMMS, chance are that you need to enable "digital audio extraction." Go to Options --> Preferences. Go to the "Audio I/O Plugins" tab (which should be open by default). Choose "CD Audio Player [libcdaudio.so]" from the Input Plugins list, hit the "Configure" button, and check "digital audio extraction" under the Play mode option in the "Device" tab.

Out of curiousity, is the audio cable from your CD-rom to your sound card connected?

It's a checkbox, not a tab. See the image below:

I am assuming you do not get the sound because you do not have the analog audio cable connecting the CD/DVD drive and the sound card.
