Newb Wine Help

Alrighty, I have almost no experience with linux, I've spent a a few weeks playing with it and such, but nothing real hardcore.

To start off, SPECS! I know you helpers love to know what i'm working with to help you so here it is:

PIII 800
Radeon 7200 (64mb)
SB Live! Value
384mb RAM (SDR)
DVDROM
ATI TV Wonder VE
DLink ethernet card
Intel HaM 56k modem

Now..my problem is I followed the instructions on the www.winehq.com site after downloading the newest wine file from sourseforge the .tgz. After I made all the directories I had no idea what to do...I probably didn't do that part right. I would love some help...heh. Thanks for you time guys!!

Well, I worked on it a little bit and I think it's the configuration file. When I want to use wine i'll type in "wine d:\setup.exe" because the install file is setup.exe, and it says that it cant do something with the DOS stuff and to check my config file. So I think I need help with my config file. If anyone could help that'd be great. I'll post the exact error and stuff when I get to class tomorrow.

Hiya Despised One,

I found this post really helpful - much thanks to Athlon_Jedi.

This has enabled me to 'mostly' get wine working. eg. some of the windows programs do actually work.

Two notes;

THIS
is the exact address for the wine rpm

and THIS

is for the patchs which you may or may not want to install (I think I got those links around the right way - or you could just log onto sunsite - theres lots of cool stuff.

Also of note; the location of your wine.conf using the above rpm is /etc/wine , not in the /usr/share/wine-c (altho' that is there)

hope this helps

ciao
