need help with remote desktop

ok so i had my friend install Mandrake 9.1 on his computer.but im more computer trained than him. and i wanted to know how i can see his desktop so i can help him out. now i have Windows XP Home Edition. and before when he had Windows we would use Real VNC. but now he cant seem to figure out how to set VNC up on his machine. and i obviously dont know how since i cant see what he sees. is there any easy way to go about seeing his computer. or how to explain to him how to set up VNC so i can access his computer?

Try getting an ssh connection to his machine and install VNC yourself.

Install an ssh client on your machine such as putty then connect to his machine using the ssh protocol. He will need to have th ssh service started and no firewall rules to block you. From there you can download and install vnc.
