Need help or going to have to reinstall my OS from scratch

Ubuntu 22.04 lts

I installed gnome shell extensions, just called "extensions" in the Ubuntu Software Center.

I toggled the last option off, which made the dock disappear. Now all I have is a desktop with my home folder on it. I don't know how to relaunch "extensions" to toggle it back, to get my dock back.

?

see screenshot attachment

p.s. I do have a second HD in my desktop that I backed up just hours ago.

I can ctrl+alt+t to cause my terminal to open. What would I type into terminal to cause the extensions app to launch (?)

ok, I solved the problem. Found the extensions program in the bin folder and right clicked it to run it

now that's solved...

for future reference though - how do I 1) find and 2) run a program from just terminal

The quickest way to find a program is to use the which command. For example, on my machine:
Code:
hazel@bigboy.localdomain:~
$ which firefox
/usr/bin/firefox
However this method will not work for administrative programs stored in /sbin or /usr/sbin because those directories are on the root user's path but not on yours.

A more general command is locate, which will find a file anywhere.

Whether you can run a program from a terminal depends on what kind of program it is and what kind of terminal you are using. You can't (as far as I know) launch a graphical program from a virtual console, but you can launch it from an xterm.

In Kubuntu 20.04, I have
Code:
$ echo $PATH
/home/hish/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games:/usr/local/games:/snap/bin
$
I like type as well.
