Question mp3s

I have just installed Red Hat Linux 8.0 in to my computer and it's workin fine, but there is one problem which I can't figure out. I can't play mp3s from mounted dos drives. All other files can be readed from there but not mp3s. Also my sound card is working fine in Linux and I can play CDs so where the hell problem could be?

I had once a similar problem with the red hat 7.3:
I had no problem to read CD's, but I had no other sound.
in a console, become root ("su password"), and then execute "sndconfig" or something else. Look for the correct command in the documentation of your distro

The version of xmms on Red Hat does not play mp3s, copyright issues.
