Wink mount: special device does not exist

Hi All,

Need help from a Linux newbie. I am mounting a partition from an external block storage.

Already completed the zoning activity and presented the LUN in CentOS 5.8.

When I type fdisk -l, it shows /dev/sdb with Device Boot /dev/sdb1. I edit the fstab as i want it to mount on /mnt.

My fstab looks like "/dev/sdb1 /mnt ext3 defaults 0 0".

When i trigger "mount -a" i hit the error "mount: special device /dev/sdb1 does not exist"

I try to look for /dev fie and look for sdb1 but unfortunately sdb1 is not included when I type "ls sd*" on /dev folder.

Result: sda, sda1, sda2, sdb

Badly need your help guys. Thanks in advance!

Can you please paste the output from

Code:
sudo blkid
This will show you which block devices are recognised by the system.

A couple of points. I usually mount in /etc/fstab by UUID - it's more precise as the system may arbitrarily assign different device names on startup.

Secondly, do you really want to to mount the filesystem directly into /mnt? Don't you want to mount it into a subdirectory? Usually I create specific folders under /mnt (well, /media on my machine) and use those as fixed mounting points for my filesystems.

A sample line from my fstab:

Code:
UUID=86ff5f7a-02a3-e101-00bc-529202a3d101 /media/sharelnx ext4 rw,auto,user    0   2
