More MPlayer woes

Hey guys,

Well I finally got MPlayer runnin on rh9. I got the command version of it running fine but I'm having trouble with the GUI version. I followed the readme installation instructions for the GUI version but whenever I try to run it in shell I get this error:

Reading config file /usr/local/etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf: No such file or directory
Reading config file /root/.mplayer/config
[cfg] read config file: /root/.mplayer/gui.conf
Reading config file /root/.mplayer/gui.conf: No such file or directory
vo: X11 running at 1280x1024 with depth 24 and 32 bpp (":0.0" => local display)
Reading /root/.mplayer/codecs.conf: Can't open '/root/.mplayer/codecs.conf': No such file or directory
Reading /usr/local/etc/mplayer./codecs.conf: Can't open '/usr/local.etc/mplayer.codecs.conf': No such file or directory
Using built-in default codecs.conf
font: can't open file: /root/.mplayer/font/font.desc
Font /usr/local/share/mplayer/font/font.desc loaded successfully! (206 chars)
Using Linux hardware RTC timing (1023Hz)
Can't open input config file /root/.mplayer/input.conf: No such file or directory
Can't open input config file /usr/local/etc/mplayer/input.conf: No such file or directory
Falling back on default (hardcoded) input config
SKIN dir 1: '/root/.mplayer/Skin'
SKIN dir 2: '/usr/local/share/mplayer/Skin'
[skin] file ( /usr/local/share/mplayer/Skin/default/skin ) not found
Skin not found (default)

Obviously the No such file or directory errors are pretty obvious. However I do have the skins and fonts in the right directory (at least I think I do), and MPlayer is only recognizing the font. About the config files I have no idea though.

Thx for any input.

I was wondering if you installed it from rpms or source, I had a problem like this too! I would get sound but no video, I had an easier time getting mplayer with (apt) I got apt installed and ran it as root "apt-get install mplayer" and it installed on my RH9 runs great, I know this is not the answer you are looking for but it might be an alternative, especially if you are going to install or update packages. mrb

Reading config file /usr/local/etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf: No such file or directory
Reading config file /root/.mplayer/config

-- these are basically the same file. There's an example in the etc directory in the source archive (be sure to read it before using it).

[cfg] read config file: /root/.mplayer/gui.conf
Reading config file /root/.mplayer/gui.conf: No such file or directory

-- these are basically the same file. It'll be created when you successfully launch the program.

Reading /usr/local/etc/mplayer./codecs.conf: Can't open '/usr/local.etc/mplayer.codecs.conf': No such file or directory
Using built-in default codecs.conf

-- this file is also available in the source archive

font: can't open file: /root/.mplayer/font/font.desc
Font /usr/local/share/mplayer/font/font.desc loaded successfully! (206 chars)

--this message won't occur when the font path is entered into config

Can't open input config file /root/.mplayer/input.conf: No such file or directory
Can't open input config file /usr/local/etc/mplayer/input.conf: No such file or directory

-- not sure about this one, but i think there's an exaple of this file in the archive as well.

SKIN dir 1: '/root/.mplayer/Skin'
SKIN dir 2: '/usr/local/share/mplayer/Skin'
[skin] file ( /usr/local/share/mplayer/Skin/default/skin ) not found
Skin not found (default)

-- mplayer doesn't come with a skin...you'll need to download at least one and use that as a skin.

it's a really annoying program to get started, but once everything is in place you'll love it.
