Unhappy Mandriva installation

Hi all,
Please i've got a classmate PC with mandriva installed on it. Mandriva isnt responding on this system. I guess the OS is probably corrupt and i decided to wipeout mandriva since i cant use it and install Ubuntu. While Ubuntu CD boots, the installation stops/hangs after language selection. Please ca any1 tell me wha to do.
I've never used mandrive. Thanks!

The sign that the installation CD hangs isn't a good one.
Usually the installation CD's have 'status console' set on other consoles so you could try to see if C-A-F2 etc works. It could show you some error message that would help troubleshoot this issue.
