Unhappy Mandriva configuration error message

Hi

I having lots of problems but im sure some experts can give me pointers. Please.

I have installed mandriva 2007 from the DVD ISO. Ive become quiet an expert since I must have installed atleast 10 times after various breakages. ouch!

I started another thread because I seemed to be breaking KDE. As the problem has gone along I have picked up more and more info but its now getting a wee bit tiring.

The windows all become static and header graphic bars are missing. Then I noticed the question mark icon in sys tray. This informed me there was a system configuration error and I should check my logs. more on that in a minute.

Additionally when the problem occurs you cant type into the shell console.

I once also recieved the error message from system stating the dcposerver didnt seem to be running and I havent got a clue what this server is?

Anyway on my set up I also cant get a root login to root desktop. In linux years ago you could.???

Anyway when I havent screwed things I can SU in konsole ok. I cant however remember how to output my logs to screen once I have root.

I tried going through the graphical interface to /var/logs but they are locked and I cant find how I get to be root in my graphical desktop????

If I ever do get to logs as root I dont know what logs madriva want for my config error?

One other thing the errors all kick off normally after I try download and install a new theme into theme manager....which im now not going to touch until I understand the problem.

Lastly I just typed fstab into konsol and got nothing....which is to me a bit weird.

Anyway thats my problems....any takers?

My knowledge is only basic since I havent run Linux in years.

well my all in wonder pro wasnt the problem.

dcpo server is still a puzzle? logs give me a network configuration problem so maybe thats it?

And yes I broke KDE again! and yes its a bug. wrecked it big time. Being a newbie I cant fix it so im faced with another intallation yet again...... should I try a different distro?

The book that gives me fstab as a command seems to be wrong because it doesnt run jack!
