Unhappy lpadmin doesn't seem to work

I am very new to Linux. I have read extensively and searched your web site for an answer. None of the solutions worked. I am trying to change my printer settings on localhost:631 (CUPS web interface). It requires a name and password. Root does not work. Lpradmin seems to hang when I use it. Any suggestions. SUSE 10.0 on a Dell 4100 Pentium III. Thanks for any help.

Root should work on the web interface, as that's what I do with my CUPS and I haven't had any problems with it. Linux is case-sensitive, so make sure that capslock isn't on (and that you're typing the username as "root", not "Root"). What command and arguments are you giving to lpadmin (if you could copy and paste your command line contents into here, that'd be best)?

When I use lpadmin, I use the command lppasswd <Enter>. A new line appears with the with the text "Password:". When I try to type in my root password, nothing happens. The terminal window does not respond and I must close it. I read that typing in your root password at "lppasswd" will allow me to log into the CUPS browser, which is what I originally started to do. Thanks, Dtsazza, for taking interest in my problem
