For best help, you need to list your pc specs (i.e. CPU speed and amount of RAM).

Hi,

Linux Mint ISOs are available from their we site: http://linuxmint.com/

However, as jross points out it may be best if you tell us the specifications of your machine to help you choose what to download.

Mint 16 (32bit) installed perfectly on my Wife's Dell Inspiron 1600; Centrino & 2Gb memory. Circa 2004/5 perhaps? You could always download a Live CD/DVD and give it a go. Loads of info on burning an ISO if you search the forums.

Oh! Welcome to Linux Questions!

Play Bonny!

Any data on the windows should be copied off and tested if you want to save it.

As above start with finding if your system meets the minimum hardware requirements. They are kind of high on newer mint distro's. I recommend you use only current distros or ones that have up to date patches.

Then you generally download an iso. Test it. Burn it to a cd or dvd (consider slowest speeds) and then reboot the system from the optical disc. Could make usb but different topic.

Then you follow the installer. They generally offer good advice.

Mint 17 is out now and is an LTS so it will have support and updates until 2019. On another forum a new user with a Dell GX260 2.6GHz / 1.3Gb ram found Cinnamon to be very slow. On the same machine the Mate edition runs fine. The Xfce edition (my personal favourite flavour) is even lighter.
