Linux Box Name

How do i change the name of my Linux box. When i start up a terminal it says <username>@linux : Could can i make it <username>@myname :

use the "hostname" command.

I did that, however,after a reboot it returns to its original <username>@linux :. It here a permanent fix to this ?

edit
/proc/sys/kernel/hostname
and add host name inplace of current then save

or

echo yourhostname > /proc/sys/kernel/hostname
