Limiting Bandwidth


Is there any way to limit the bandwidth of a particular client in the network , using any network monitoring tool

Yes, but I can't for the life of me remember how.. I've done it once, think I used a software. Try and search google for something similar.

There are various ways to limit traffic per client on a network, but it depends on your setup as to which one you will want to use. The first few things that come to mind are traffic control (http://linux.die.net/man/8/tc), smoothwall, and a cisco router.

'tc' command is what you need, should be built in to your kernel by default. It allows you to enable queuing disciplines on interfaces.

If you google 'tc qdisc howto' you get more info than you'll ever need.
