with this lilo.conf, make sure your BIOS boots the /dev/hdd disk first. Change your BIOS settings of not, or change the boot=/dev/hdd to the disk wich is first booted by the BIOS. second thing is you have an image=/vmlinuz. I guess this is a symlink, if not, change it to the complete path of your kernel image (in /boot).
to check if /vmlinuz is a symlink, do this:

cd /
ls -al
if it's a symlink, it will say something like: "--> /boot/vmlinuz" at the end of the line.

Ok, i got it to work, i added these lines:
disk=/dev/hdd
bios=0x80

However, once the setup started i figured i'm not quite ready for debian yet, it was a bit too complicated for me.
