Lexmark X5470 printer install on Ubuntu 8.04??

Hello, I attached the printer to a USB port and Ubuntu recognized the new device and went through some installations steps and takes me to a list of Lexmark printers recommending the 5000 series then wants to copy either a new PPD or copy option setting from an old PPD. Neither of these are successful so I never get to the point when I can apply the settings in the Printer Configurations. It appears as though it can't find a PPD file for this printer. Any ideas/help.

Thanks,
Mike

Try configuring using the web-browser.

http://localhost:631/printers

Else you can also configure it using the lpinfo command also.
Type
Code:
lpinfo -m
for the list of available drivers (.ppd) files.

There is a good documentation available at http://www.cups.org

Regards,

Does Ubuntu support this device?

There is a question in my mind as to whether Ubuntu will support this model of printer. Perhaps some kind soul would provide the link to the list of supported devices.

If not, there is a workaround involving a "virtual machine."

Newbie comment--printer not listed

Although I am an experienced computer person, I am strictly a newbie about Linux. However, the following link lists a lot of printers:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupp...onentsPrinters

and this Lexmark printer is not listed. Five will get you ten that this printer is not supported.

Do you agree?

there is no driver for x5470 available under linux.
The driver detected by cups is 5000 series (previous model) not a x5000 series.
