Question laptop monitor


hi

i have installed slackware on my laptop

i set the resolution to 1024x768

but the thing is the actuall desktop doesnt expand to fit my monitor

so i have like 1 inch of space around the desktop of unused monitor

any suggestions?

hrm maybe i didnt explain well,

i have a 1 inch border of unused monitor space around my desktop

so my screen is really small and in the center of my monitor

any suggestions?

Have you tried using the control buttons for the monitor? Laptop or no, you should be able to adjust the vertical and horizontal sizing, along with the brightness, contrast, etc. -- J.W.

bah.... my laptop doesnt come with any manual monitor controls

thing is, my computer boots to the command line not X

and it takes up the whole screen just fine,

but right after i type in startx

it goes to my desktop and shrinks the whole thing

any suggestions?

That means your laptop default resolution is larger than 10x7 -- try 1280x1024. Most laptop screens will not expand pictures as desktop monitors do; increase the resolution and it'll be fine.
