Keymap symbols in RH7.1 not in Fedora 9

Hey there: LTRFTP (long time reader first time poster)

Well to fill in some history on this issue:

Have a quite a few machines running a specialized app on Red Hat 7.1, we are currently in the process of changing over to a newer application which runs an OS that shall not be named. In the meantime the hardware still has to be changed so we needed a linux based OS that can handle newer hardware. In steps Fedora 9 (yay!) after whittling it down to CLI (the GUI stuff is no help to us), its runs the app, it detects the hardware, things are looking good!

Now the rub...

We use a specialized key map arrangement for our app most of the keys seem to do what they are supposed to but we are having an issue with the card swipe. I also noticed certain symbols are not being displayed the same way as the were in RH7.1:

This is a sample from fedora:

compose '`' 'A' to '€'
compose '`' 'a' to ' '
compose '\'' 'A' to 'Á'
compose '\'' 'a' to 'á'
compose '^' 'A' to '‚'
compose '^' 'a' to 'â'
compose '~' 'A' to 'ƒ'
compose '~' 'a' to 'ã'
compose '"' 'A' to '„'
compose '"' 'a' to 'ä'
compose 'O' 'A' to '…'
compose 'o' 'a' to 'å'
compose '0' 'A' to '…'
compose '0' 'a' to 'å'
compose 'A' 'A' to '…'
compose 'a' 'a' to 'å'
compose 'A' 'E' to '†'
compose 'a' 'e' to 'æ'
compose ',' 'C' to '‡'
compose ',' 'c' to 'ç'
compose '`' 'E' to 'ˆ'
compose '`' 'e' to 'è'

This is a sample from Red Hat 7.1

compose '`' 'A' to '└'
compose '`' 'a' to 'α'
compose '\'' 'A' to '┴'
compose '\'' 'a' to ''
compose '^' 'A' to '┬'
compose '^' 'a' to 'Γ'
compose '~' 'A' to '├'
compose '~' 'a' to 'π'
compose '"' 'A' to '─'
compose '"' 'a' to 'Σ'
compose 'O' 'A' to '┼'
compose 'o' 'a' to 'σ'
compose '0' 'A' to '┼'
compose '0' 'a' to 'σ'
compose 'A' 'A' to '┼'
compose 'a' 'a' to 'σ'
compose 'A' 'E' to '╞'
compose 'a' 'e' to ''
compose ',' 'C' to '╟'
compose ',' 'c' to 'τ'

Any ideas on this? I installed every font that was on the DVD during the install but stuff still shows up weird. I think it is related to the issue of cards not being read properly, leading characters look one way on RH and look different on Fedora, will continue my investigations but any help would be most appreciated.

Update

Ok, it looks like Fedora is on UTF-8 while this keymap was done in ISO-8895-1 thus the wonky characters, just trying to find the correct codes to set these characters to.

Thanks for the errr... help.

Will update my progress and hope fully help out anyone else in this predicament.
