Kernel problems

I have tried many diff. live distros of linux but a few of the dont work.
I keep getting some type of kernel error.
When I tried to load up Suse live I got Kernel panic not syncing
or something like that
When I tried mandrake I got kernel panic kill init

What does it mean and how can I get around it.
Thanks

Hard to say for sure as those are common error messages. It would help if you could post a few lines of output above those messages so we could know where exactly in the kernel loading process they occur. One thing to try is to pass the options noacpi and nousb to the kernel command line when booting. Some hotplug devices can cause weird kernel problems, or at least that used to be the case. It may or may not solve your problem.
